Spring Season at Mississippi State Campus…

There’s something special about spring time in Starkville. One, let’s take a moment to give credit where credit is due… Mississippi State landscaping should deserve a blog of it’s own. And being a photographer on campus in the spring reflects just that, the constant upkeep, maintanence, and updates on entire campus’s landscape is beyond impressive. Let’s specifically take a moment for their tulips among campus, and FINALLY got to capture some sessions highlighting these.

The campus begins to bloom, students are counting down the days until commencement, and years of hard work are finally coming to fruition. As a photographer, graduation season at Mississippi State University has become one of my favorite times of the year. Every session carries a unique story, but they all share one thing in common, a celebration of everything it took to reach this moment.

Looking back on this spring's graduation sessions, I’m feeling incredibly grateful for the opportunity to document such an exciting season for so many graduates.

Why Spring Graduation Sessions at Mississippi State Feel So Special

Graduation photos are about so much more than a cap and gown.

They're about remembering the place that became home for four years (or however long Mississippi State brought you to Starkville). They're about celebrating friendships that survived countless exams, football game Saturdays, late-night study sessions, and every challenge in between.

One of my favorite parts of photographing graduates at Mississippi State is hearing their stories. Every graduate has a different journey, different memories, and different dreams for what comes next. Being invited into that chapter and preserving it through photographs is something I never take for granted. I get to learn about so many people’s walks of lives, relationships that began on campus, and so many new beginnings and chapters closing. It really is a beautiful time to be a photographer.

Golden Hour Graduation Photos in Starkville

We all know spring in Mississippi can be… well, unpredictable to say the least. Specifically, the humidity and rain can cause it to be somewhat unpredictable. So, I always am one to stick with golden hour sessions, later in the day, when the sun will for sure be soft, and definitely more cool than midday. Most importantly, I will be sure your photos don’t have funky shadows or inconsistent lighting.

Once time changes, I only do 2 sessions a day, either morning soft light sessions around 8 am, or golden hour into sunset sessions around 6 pm. I will show you a few examples of both.

Hannah’s morning senior session was perfect and we had the perfect amount of soft glow sun coming in to emphasize those greens and whites around campus, specifically highlighted at Old Main, Drill Field, and the Junction

Celebrating Mississippi State Traditions, and Your Own Touch

One thing I love encouraging graduates to do is incorporate the traditions and places that made their college experience meaningful.

For some graduates, that meant visiting iconic campus locations. For others, it meant bringing champagne to celebrate, wearing cords that represented years of dedication, or including personal touches that reflected their time at Mississippi State.

And of course, nothing says Mississippi State quite like Bully, oh and your cowbell :)

Getting to incorporate Mississippi State traditions into graduation sessions always adds another layer of personality and school pride. These little details help tell a story that graduates will be able to look back on years from now and immediately remember exactly how this season of life felt.

Let’s take a look at a very personable senior session:

Ivy Rose worked with The Reflector on campus as a photographer, so we implemented a lot of really cool memorabilia with her experience at Mississippi State with the Reflector. This session was fun, unique, and special, as I got to learn about Ivy’s experience as a sports photographer and her time at The Reflector. I love sessions that have a lot of personal touch and keepsakes, collectibles, and important pieces of their time in college at Mississippi State.

Mississippi State Group & Couples Sessions

One of my favorite trends from this graduation season was seeing graduates choose to celebrate alongside the people who helped make their college experience so memorable.

Whether it was best friends who survived four years of classes together, roommates who became family, or couples who met during their time at Mississippi State, these sessions always carry an extra layer of meaning. Graduation may mark the end of a college chapter, but it's also a celebration of the relationships built along the way.

Group graduation sessions bring so much energy and personality. Some of my favorite moments aren't the perfectly posed photos, it's the laughter between friends, the inside jokes, and the genuine excitement of realizing they made it to graduation together. These images often become some of the most treasured because they capture not only the accomplishment, but also the people who shared the journey.

Couples graduation sessions are equally special. For many Mississippi State couples, campus is where their story began. From first dates in Starkville to cheering on the Bulldogs together on game days, Mississippi State becomes woven into their relationship. Incorporating meaningful campus locations into their graduation photos allows them to celebrate both their academic achievements and the memories they've created together.

There's something incredibly sweet about documenting a season that represents both an ending and a beginning, graduating from college while looking ahead to the future with the people who matter most.

Reflecting on my Starkville Seniors & Grads

As I look back through this spring's galleries, I’m reminded that graduation is such a unique milestone.

It's the closing of one chapter and the beginning of another. There’s excitement, anticipation, pride, and often a little bit of nostalgia mixed in all at once.

To every graduate who stepped in front of my camera this spring, thank you. Thank you for trusting me to document your accomplishments and preserve these memories. Watching each of you celebrate everything you've achieved has been one of the greatest joys of my season.
