Savannah, Georgia Engagement Photos Guide

Written By: Hannah Ellis, Mississippi Based & Destination Photographer

Savannah, Georgia is one of the most romantic cities in the South for engagement photos. With its moss-draped oak trees, historic streets, and waterfront views, it offers an effortless blend of elegance and charm in every direction. Whether you’re planning a full engagement session or just dreaming up locations, this guide will walk you through a few of the most iconic and visually stunning spots in Savannah.

Below are a few of my favorite locations for engagement and couples sessions, each offering a completely different feel while still capturing that classic Savannah magic.

Forsyth Park - A Staple of Savannah

Forsyth Park is one of the most iconic photo locations in Savannah—and for good reason. The famous fountain, towering oak trees, and wide open walkways create a timeless backdrop that feels both romantic and editorial.

This location is perfect for couples who want:

  • A classic Savannah look

  • Soft, dreamy greenery

  • Iconic fountain portraits

  • A mix of posed and candid walking moments

The best time to shoot here is early morning or just before sunset when the light filters through the trees and softens the entire park.

A little about the session- I had the BEST time with Kim and Nick. They were super fun & laid back. Posing them was effortless, they had such natural love and beautiful style, I was basically just documenting cute moments for them. They recently moved to Savannah, so it was really neat being able to capture a fun session for them in their new town.

Jones Street in Heart of Savannah, Georgia

Jones Street is often called one of the most beautiful streets in America, and once you walk it, you’ll understand why. The cobblestone feel, historic homes, and tree-lined sidewalks make it perfect for a more relaxed, lifestyle-focused session.

This particular session featured a couple who was not engaged, but simply wanted photos together while visiting Savannah. Jones Street is ideal for that kind of session because it feels effortless and natural—less posed, more movement-based storytelling.

What makes Jones Street special:

  • Quiet, romantic atmosphere

  • Stunning historic architecture

  • Perfect for candid walking photos

  • Beautiful even in soft or overcast light

It’s a great option for couples, anniversary sessions, or just documenting a season of life together.

River Street Engagement Photos

First off— Sadie and Dax made this session look like a cinematic MOVIE. Seriously, one of the most fun and easy sessions I have done in my career. I loved capturing their raw and authentic beauty and love for one another.

River Street brings a completely different energy compared to the rest of Savannah. With its waterfront views, cobblestone pathways, and bustling charm, it’s perfect for couples who want something a little more dynamic and textured.

An engagement session here allows for a mix of:

  • Romantic riverfront moments

  • Editorial-style walking shots

  • Golden hour glow over the water

  • Candid movement through the historic district

One of my favorite parts about shooting on River Street is how much variety you can get in a short amount of time—from quiet corners along the river to lively city backdrops just steps away.

Planning Your Session in Savannah, GA

When planning your engagement photos in Savannah, the most important thing is choosing a location that reflects your relationship.

Whether you’re drawn to the elegance of Forsyth Park, the charm of Jones Street, or the energy of River Street, each location tells a different story.

Many couples also choose to combine locations for a more editorial feel, which allows your gallery to feel like a full visual narrative of your time in the city.

If you’re unsure where to start, I always help my couples choose locations based on light, season, and the overall feeling they want their photos to have.
